WINDSOR VAULT OPENED AFTER DECADES: DIANA’S HIDDEN WILL SENDS SHOCKWAVES THROUGH THE MONARCHY

WINDSOR VAULT OPENED AFTER DECADES: DIANA’S HIDDEN WILL SENDS SHOCKWAVES THROUGH THE MONARCHY

WINDSOR, England — After remaining sealed for decades under a special order from Queen Elizabeth II, a vault deep inside Windsor Castle was opened this week. What emerged has, according to sources close to the palace, left King Charles III visibly shaken and sent ripples of alarm through the highest levels of the British monarchy.

The vault, long the subject of whispered conversations among senior courtiers, had been locked away since the night Princess Diana died in Paris in August 1997. Its existence was officially denied by some officials and only quietly acknowledged by others. A simple plaque on the door read: For the Future, When They Are Ready.

No one, sources say, ever asked aloud who “they” were or what future the inscription referred to. That question is no longer theoretical. The vault was opened in the year Diana’s sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, have both reached full maturity — the moment many inside the palace now believe the late Queen had intended.
